Located in rural Lama, Roots and Wings Community School is a privately-run, publicly-funded charter school for grades 5-8.  The exisiting campus consists of a 1,500gsf modular building in the traditional Territorial style with exterior portals and flagstone walkways.  Living Designs Group has guided Roots and Wings through the rigorous planning and zoning approval process of Taos County's Special Use Permit procedure to allow for the campus expansion.  The expansion comprises an increased parking capacity that does not disturb the native vegetation and the design of a 2,650gsf freestanding addition.

This new classroom building will allow Roots and Wings to double the number of middle school students it currently serves.  The addition will fit harmoniously with the the exisiting building by matching the roof profile, building massing and exterior materials.  With the campus expansion completed in spring of 2009, students and staff will enjoy an exterior courtyard formed by the small "village" of individual structures.
